Charlton @ Man City

January 6th, 2009
  • Here we go:

Probably the same lineup as against Villa. I would only question Fish at this point. I'm not sure he has played well. This is where I wish I could "see" the matches and not just listen.

And unforntunately I will only get to listen to the first half of this one. My daughter's birthday party is Saturday morning as well.

I think Jeffers will get on the board again, along with either Euell or Rommedahl.

I say Man City 1-2 Charlton Athletic.

    Go Addicks!

  • Another nightmare.

I don't want to place all the blame on a single player, I'm sure the whole team played poorly and I totally missed the game, but I'm going to do it anyway.

    Mark Fish has to go.

He'd be inadequate in the Second Division three years ago, but for some incomprehensible reason he's still Curbs' first choice week in and week out. If we still had Rufus and Rowett, and Perry wasn't MIA, this guy would be fifth on my depth chart... no wait, since I rate Michael Turner higher, he'd be sixth.

Here's hoping Curbs signs two defenders in the next two days.

And please Matt Holland come back soon!

  • Damn, just realized I'm going to miss this one too. :(

I read on the BBC board that Lisbie injured his ankle, anyone else hear anything about this? Hopefully it's just a rumour.

  • Curbs won't be going to Newcastle -- at least not at this time. The Magpies want Alan S. to be the next manager. Curbs wouldn't go over just to groom Shearer to take over.

That was accidental but good -- groom Shearer. Ha.

  • Curbs had better figure something out... FAST!! I see that Earnshaw is going to West Brom so we won't be signing him.

And Javier Saviola has officially gone on loan to Monaco.

And now with the sacking of Sir Bobby Robson rumors of Alan heading to Newcastle.

Why does all of this feel pre-July 1 all over again?

  • I think I'm right in saying that we should never wear our all red kits. I believe we did so both at Bolton and at Manchester City.

Why aren't we wearing our ugly yellow away kits? Those were good luck for us last year. Someone get the message to Curbs -- on the road we should wear the yellow.

And I agree -- Fish has got to go. Perry needs to be in there if he is not injured. He teamed with Fortune quite well for spells last year. If not Perry, then maybe put HH in the middle and either El K or Powell on the outside.

Or go buy a good defender. Less than two days now to buy someone. But we have two weeks to stew over this and get it fixed.

    Go Addicks!

  • The team remains unchanged from Wednesday.

However, Anelka got us down 1-0.

  • Bad day for Charlton - apparently the defence was terrible.

I see this as a big disappointment because the team seemed ready to make a step to the next level after two home wins. Man City were ready to be taken after their poor start to the season and with a two week break coming up a victory for Charton really would have confirmed their good start.

Instead it seems like "back to the drawing board" for Curbishley. Two bad away defeats is not a good sign.

  • If he goes to Newcastle (I don't think he will), he better take Fish with him!!!

  • Curbs had better figure something out... FAST!! I see that Earnshaw is going to West Brom so we won't be signing him. Also I found out Fish is the team's captain so I'm just about to lose all hope for this season, why he makes the worst player the captain is beyond my wildest imagination?! what good is a captain who's ten paces slower than everyone, can't pass the ball, can't tackle, and has to have Fortune covering for him all the time??

And now we have to live with this embarrassing loss for a while since I don't think there's any matches next weekend.

A quality signing today or tomorrow might make me feel a little bit better, but for all this talk about one or two new signings before the transfer deadline, the deadline is tomrrow and still nothing, I'm skeptical.
