New Consortium... 20m and then what... Gordon Strachan

January 6th, 2009
  • So this new consortium has 20m to takeover with and hopes to do so by week end. now. 20m is nowhere near the 80m or so (or higher?) that is owed. so they takeover, save us from administration and then what? still huge amounts of debt... theyve also targeted gordon stracah to take over leeds again. i hope we can stay up because i dont see how itd be possible to bounce back up with such debts weighing us down, or maybe i just dont understand football financing so well.

  • Lorimer's part of it - he's on the board now.

I remember him and his teeth or, rather, lack thereof, very well. Great striker, though.
Er... I'm thinking of Joe Jordan, aren't I...

Lorimer was the one with the sledge-hammer shot.

  • Good news - probably.

I would imagine that most of the debt has gone the way of all flesh. The debts that remain are probably for those things that are required on a continuing basis, i.e. for the running of Elland road, etc.

As usual with companies that go tits up the devils in the detail but, nevertheless, good news for your fellas I think. Hopefully you might be able to turn your season around now. I'd like to see it as much as anything for young Smiffy, et al.

  • "The consortium has done its job, Leeds United is saved for the supporters."

    Consortium leader Gerald Krasner

Finally! I think everyone is going to be so fired up that we won't lose to Man City now. Just one more thing left to do this year, avoid relegation.

  • Thank God!!!!

At least the players can focus on playing now, and not worry about there checks bouncing... Leeds should be able to start putting together some results now, I smell an extreme hot stretch from Viduka circa end of last year...

  • The way it has been talked about happening is this.....

Consortium pays £20 to the creditors (then possibly sell ER for £20m and LUFC stay as a tennant).
The creditors take this money instead of the £80m which they would never see if the club went into administration.

Basically i believe that this would wipe out the debt, and things could start working a bit better.

  • I haven't really understood this either. Is the 20M just a temporary patch to buy more time to cover the rest of the debt?

I think relagation would put Leeds back in financial ruin. This is a great step for the survival of Leeds United.

  • This sounds a lot like what Kaiserslautern did in Germany. They sold the Fritz Walter Stadion to the city and now pay rent. It didn't solve all of their financial issue, but helped quite a bit. If Leeds can raise 40 million quid and stay up in the EPL, they should be at least able to keep the players they have now. Hopefully, this is a good step. It sucks to have to sell Elland Road, but I guess it better than another fire sale of players.

  • I think you'll find we don't OWN Elland Road anymore, thanks to some of Risdale's dealings.
That's part of the reason for our dire financial situation.
Is anyone here also a member of the Leeds-list?
